Seva is the act of selfless service . . . and now at a time
when the beautiful Mayan people at Lake Atitlan have endured
great tragedy, we are called to act and assist in the ways
we know how. . . . through prayer, intention and financial
contribution. Those that live around the Lake have endured
the tragedy of the loss of over 1,500 innocent lives, loss
of homes, jobs, livelihoods and are enduring broken hearts
and dreams. The losses were largely to the working class
Mayan villagers.
When the news of the mudslides, damage, loss of lives and
tragedy arrived, I was unsure of how to proceed with the
upcoming retreat. After some conversations with knowledgeable
friends both in Guatemala and internationally, and then
deep and strong meditations, it has become very clear to
me that we must continue to offer our work in this magical
place.
So, the retreat will continue as planned . . . with a few
shifts of intention . . . This will now be a retreat of
SEVA . . . of selfless service.

RETREAT DETAILS
Six magical days and starry nights await you on
the shores of ancient Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. Villa Sumaya
is one of Ateeka's personal favorite places for healing,
creativity and restoration. At 4,500 feet above sea level,
Lake Atitlan is the perfect Mayan landscape with nearly
bottomless crater lake waters and three perfect volcanos
reaching into the skyline.
The Mayan lake culture is well preserved and thriving in
these Guatemalan highlands. The only traffic around the
lake is by small boat...so silence is everywhere. The Villa
Sumaya blends sweetly with nature offering 8 unpretentious
yet deluxe thatched roof rooms, spacious gardens, hammocks,
hot tub, sauna, gourmet restaurant and dedicated lake front
yoga room...the Blue Tiger Temple.
Ateeka will offer 2 daily yoga practices, mornings in a
joyful bhakti vinyasa style and afternoon or evening ecclectic
offerings. Meditation is also a part of each day.
In addition . . . we will have added meditations and japa
(mantra) with intentional focus on healing and restoration
for the people of Lake Atitlan, for the Mother Lake and
for Mother Earth. Mother Earth is now asking us to step
up to care for and respect Her in more active and immediate
ways. This retreat will focus on our commitment to this
planet and how we live in harmony here.
